The
fishing at Halnaby continues to be worse than hoped for, with no carp
or bream being caught (except for a baby bream). Small perch and roach
again dominated, but all the juniors seemed to have a good time and had
a smile on their faces for most of the day (except for during a couple
of heavy showers).
The winner was Harrison Mortimer-Rees with 2lbs 10ozs from peg 26. He caught all his fish on a short whip, near the tree to his left or tight to the dam wall (and his keepnet).
In
second place was Dexter Ellis, with 2lbs 8ozs from peg 12. He again
fished a short pole line, mainly to the tree to his left. In the last
hour of the match, he found that shallowing-up a few inches brought him
a few slightly larger roach but even so his heaviest fish was just 2
ozs.
Third
came Jake Enderwick, with 2lbs 1oz from peg 10. Included in his catch
was the only bream caught on the day, but it only weighed 1oz 8drams.
Harlun
Mortimer-Rees was 4th with 2lbs from peg 26 (which he had shared with
his brother). Included in his catch was the biggest perch of the day
(3ozs).
Sam Neal had 1lb 6ozs from peg 15.
Daniel Blythe had 1lb from peg 23, which included the heaviest roach of the match at 4ozs.
Theo Nicholson had 11ozs from peg 16.
After
the match we all said a fond farewell to the Mortimer-Rees brothers, as
they are shortly moving to the Czech Republic for two years. Hopefully
they will enjoy their fishing there.
