Ted
Wood on peg 5 concentrated on his usual carp or bream tactics which
eventually brought him a single carp. But at 14lbs 2ozs it easily won
the match and brought a smile to his (and everyone else's) face.
Second
was Harlun Mortimer-Rees on peg 10, who again repeated his tactics of
groundbait feeder with red maggot to tempt 3 skimmers (largest was
2lbs), plus a few small perch and roach for a total of 5lbs 6ozs.
Meanwhile Jake
Carter
concentrated on a long pole approach to the lily pads on peg 2 for a
total of 2lbs 8ozs, which included the heaviest roach of the day at
4ozs.
Jake
Enderwick had 1lb 3ozs of small roach and perch (largest 4 ozs so not
quite as big as his best in the previous match) from peg 15.
Deacon
Porter (peg 12) was catching small perch on a 4 metre whip and maggot
right from the start, but when a family of swans moved into peg 12 the
bites dried up totally. So in the end he was able to put just 1lb onto
the scales. However he did make the strangest catch of the day, when he
hooked one of the cygnets as he was trying to move his float away from
them. It gave quite a fight before he netted it, and the hook was soon
removed and the cygnet swam off with no harm done.
Theo Nicholson fished peg 9 for 9ozs of perch and roach.
Sebastian
Boyer had 5ozs of tiny very small perch and roach from peg 8, plus he
also caught a small gudgeon. Unfortunately he missed the keepnet so
couldn't really count it. However we decided to award him the prize for
the heaviest of that species caught on the day.
Tying
with him on weight was Elijah Macauley, with 5ozs from peg 4. He spent
most of the match feeder fishing with worm or corn but failed to get
any interest from bream or carp.
Dan
Blythe had just 4ozs of small fish, having spent nearly all the match
fishing feeder tactics but failing to get any response from bream or
carp from peg 14.
