RESULTS FOR THE YAL JUNIOR OPEN MATCH - SATURDAY 24 AUGUST 2024
Eight
junior anglers enjoyed a more successful day's fishing than a couple of
weeks ago, with roach dominating catches for a change.
Rose
Hutchinson continued with her successful tactics of short whip and
maggot (feeding small pinches of her favourite F1 Sweet Green
groundbait) for a winning weight of 7lbs 11 ozs from peg 12. Most of
her fish were roach up to 5ozs.
Second was Tom Howard (who only started fishing earlier this summer) with 3lbs 15ozs from peg 11. He won the prize for the heaviest perch of the day, a good looking 4oz fish.
In
third place was an absolute beginner, who fished a flick-tip whip on
peg 16 for 3lbs 1oz. He included roach to 5ozs, a few perch and very
small skimmers but his bream of 1lbs 11ozs made up the bulk of his
weight and also brought a few "Wows" from the other competitors.
Sammy Macauley had 2lbs 4ozs from peg 15, and his brother Elijah had 1lb 12ozs from peg 14.
Sebastian Boyer had 2lbs 1oz from peg 10.
Hamish Barker shared peg 16 with Cameron, and put 1lb 6ozs onto the scales.
Theo
Nicholson once again spent half the match fishing for carp or bream on
feeder tactics but failed to get any. So a switch to whip tactics wa
called for, and he eventually put 1lbs 4ozs of roach and (tiny) perch
in his net
In second place came newcomer Tom
Howard who was fishing for only his third time. He fished a 4m whip
with maggot on peg 15, for roach (largest 5ozs) and perch to 2ozs, plus
a couple of hand-sized skimmers for a total weight of 3lbs12ozs.
Elijah
Macauley had 3lbs of roach (largest 3ozs) and perch from peg 10,
narrowly beating his brother Sammy who fished peg 9 for a total of 2lbs
11ozs. However, Sammy did catch the heaviest roach of the day which was
a very good-looking 7ozs.
Henry
Burns fished peg 5, but just couldn't get the small fish feeding
consistently and despite having a visit from a carp he only mangaed to
put 14ozs on the scales. However near the end of the match, while Henry
was walking around to see what everyone else was catching, his dad had
a go on a whip with single maggot and latched into a carp of 7lbs 6ozs
which gave him quite a few frights before he landed it on a light
elasticated whip.
